It was important that the MeterBar component stay familiar to the user but also improve their experience and understanding of their personal in-game progress. The MeterBar was a historic component ready for a 20th century update. Thirty six design iterations were considered before the final design. 

 

 Voice to Speech Design


We needed to design an accessibility feature that enabled people with hearing impairments to see visually when others are speaking; and have their speaking translated into text. In addition to this feature the keyboard needed a design update. We needed to consider, not only the accessibility features, but also having a keyboard on screen during live game-play.

I had to get creative with the prototype, which involved hitting specific buttons on the controller. I realized that placing the controller right into this prototype was an effective way to communicate the intended behavior here. Highlighting the buttons enhanced this effect.
